WORD LISTS FOR SCRABBLE (tm) PLAYERS
▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄
I have decided to compile sets of word lists for my own amusement and as a
study aid to improve SCRABBLE (tm) playing skill. All the words in the lists
are contained in the OSPD (tm), 3rd ed. (c) and are therefore 'legal' plays.
There are many possible applications for these lists. You may print out
portions of any one list or an entire list and memorize parts of it. You may
even use a laptop computer at club play or in a tournament to verify whether
a particularly unusual play is valid. You might use the enclosed EXTRACT.EXE
utility to create your own word lists or even to test odd combinations of
letters to list many of the plays possible with them.
I have found, from my own experience, that forcible memorization is
self-defeating. More effective is simply learning by repetition. Just
reviewing and reading over the word lists with NO effort to memorize works
best.
Having spent quite a few hours assembling these lists and writing the
EXTRACT.EXE program, I would certainly be gratified to receive any feedback.
Note that I am not specifically asking for contributions, however, if you
wish to send one it would be most gratefully received. A contribution of $2
or greater automatically registers you for the WORDY Scrabble (tm) study
system [you will be sent WORDY & a selection of other software upon receipt
of your contribution].
The included word lists were easily created using various utilities and the
master word list in the WORDY package from the same author. WORDY will
be sent upon request (w/self-addressed, stamped disk mailer), but WORDY is
shareware with a very modest $2.00 registration fee. WORDY also includes a
a fun game allowing the user to increase their Scrabble (tm) vocabulary
painlessly. Note: the December 1995 issue of PC COMPUTING gave WORDY a five-
star rating (the highest).
All included word lists are herewith placed in the Public Domain. There is
no restriction on their use and distribution, but please credit the author.

See the included file, 1DIF.TXT, for an exciting new Scrabble (tm) variation.

Disclaimer
I make no representation that the word lists are complete and/or
all-inclusive. Any errors present are the result of typing mistakes and it
is the responsibility of the user to verify the validity of the words
included. My own liability is limited to the amount charged for the lists,
that is zero-point-zero.

As an aside, the one book for Scrabble (tm) players that I would recommend is
the following...
Lawrence, Michael and John Ozag: THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO WINNING SCRABBLE,
Bantam, 1987, ISBN 0-553-34306-8, $8.95.
Another interesting / entertaining book for Scrabble (tm) enthusiasts:
Brandreth, Gyles: THE SCRABBLE (r) PUZZLE BOOK, Simon and Schuster, 1984,
ISBN 0-671-50536-X, $7.95. <Out of print?>
Recently published, and pretty good, but not as good as the Lawrence & Ozag
book above:
Edley, Joe and John Williams, Jr.: EVERYTHING SCRABBLE, Pocket Books (Simon
and Schuster), 1995, ISBN 0-671-86686-9, $12.00.
